This is the car that I got after trading in my Sundance.
The car features the "fake convertible" top along with leather seats,
digital dashboard, power everything and the "gold emblem" package which
means that the gold plating starts to peel off after 12 years.
The engine is (was) a Cadillac exclusive engine with an aluminum block
with iron piston sleeves and cast iron cylinder heads. It has Cadillac's
"Digital Fuel Injection" which is a variation of GMs TBI system used on
many of their cars in the '80s. It displaces 4.5 liters (273") and produces
produces 155hp @ 4000 RPM and 240ft-lbs of torque @ 2800 RPM. Although
these engines lack high rpm performance, the low torque peak common to
Cadillac engines makes it easy to spin the (front) tires.
0-60 times are in the 9 second range, the ride quality is very smooth
and handling is decent thanks to the front-wheel-drive. The car has been
averaging over 18 miles-per-gallon according to the built-in digital fuel
economy display.
10/5/01 Purchased the car with only around 133,000 miles on it for around $2,500 + my '88 Plymouth Sundance Turbo.
10/14/01 Replaced the distributor cap & rotor.
10/31/01 Replaced the low-beam headlight bulbs with the "blue" ones. They are not any brighter then stock but the light output is clearer.
11/2/01 Noticed one of the CV axles was leaking grease, dropped it off at a local repair facility.
11/5/01 Finally picked the car up with the new boot and $59.99 bill.
12/21/01 Left front tire is leaking air, approx 5psi a day. The tread on the front tires is low anyway so I will have them both replaced.
12/31/01 Got new front tires. The left front inner tie rod was loose
1/2/02 Had the tie rod replaced...
1/16/02 Right inner tie rod, ball joints & front brakes were replaced too.
10/22/02 Got my gold E&G Grille from eBay
2/10/02 Traded this car in towards a 1997 DeVille
The car had developed a part-throttle misfire and I did not want to mess with it. The '97 is much nicer.
This grille from my '89 is now for sale on ebay
